before they came out with low carb ice cream, I used to make chocolate icecream...
you take bitter coco powder [some carbs] and add stevia [no calories no carbs, very very sweet]. and whole cream [zero carbs]. and mix it in a blender....
pour the result into a freezer bag.
seal tightly and place inside a larger freezerbag filled with ice cubes and salt.
shake like crazy for about 20 minutes I think it was......an viola`
texture was not bad, taste was awesome.

OK back to fluff for a change...has anyone had success making icecream?
by restrangled ini bought one of those new fangled devices, by cuisenart...pour the stuff into a prefrozen container and watch it turn into your dream homemade icecream....not!.
it comes out soft and soupy.
if you put it into the freezer it hardens into 1000 year old glacier like material.. it tastes good, but the texture is never where you want it.

The ability to let go... Do Jws/ex-JWs have a problem with this?
by restrangled inthis is in no way meant to be an accusation.
it's just a question.
it could also be just human nature in general, or a personality type that was attracted to this religion in the first place.. it seems that several problems on this board just won't die a peaceful death.

we fall in love with the reflection of our own idealized self... those of us who joined JWs saw something of our ideals in them and thought they would be the right ones to re-inforce them... but like all others, they took our ideals and claimed to know that we had a flawed one and theirs was THE TRUTH and gradually they had us compare our lives to THEIR ideals...always presenting the IDEAL hive drone and his place within the hive and how we did not measure up and could not hope to measure up in this life, but needed to strive to be just like him in everything we did...and just needed to ask forgiveness where we fell short and that would make it all better. many of our ideals are hidden within us and go unexamined and because of this we might have felt a certainty about JWs that was false to begin with and this allowed them to mold us to their distorted image. ======= as to letting go, the past is a ghost which can only haunt you with the energy you give it. until you understand that you yourself are haunting yourself, you may feel victimized by the past...but the past has no substance beyond data in your mind and you have the ability to manipulate that data and deal with it any way you have gained the skill to do so...its just a matter of learning new skills and techniques rather than constantly fighting your own minds activity. ======== here are a few- 1. name what you see around you. this forces your mind to the present moment... it can break the emotional power grip a strongly negative expeirence has over you. as you feel the grip of the past wane, you can focus more on what you are currently doing rather than what cannot be undone. you can ACCEPT that yes, that DID infact happen and NO ONE can alter one step and YES it is over and done and CANNOT harm you as it did in the past without your allowance. 2. scan your body from head to toe for muscles being held tight...often sub-conscious emotional ideas manifest in clenched muscles... find them and relax those muscle groups... generally around the shoulders and the butt. this will cause an internal chain reaction, the body is a feedback loop. happy thoughts lead to smiling and smiling leads to happy thoughts... no one can sing the hee haw song without smiling and feeling better. 3. intellectually you can tell yourself that ALL THINGS ARE AS THEY MUST BE because NO ONE can alter a single moment of the past... reality is about forces of nature behaving as their nature dictates, the myth of freewill gives the illusion that reality could have been and damn-it! should have been different from the life you remember living. letting go of this myth leads to the peace of acceptance. there is no one to blame for your life being what it is, there is no one who lives a life outside of nature.

Are we just domesticated animals?
by Anti-Christ ini was doing a lot of thinking lately about the nature of us, humans.
there are different ways of seeing it but if we did evolve, then that would explain a lot.
what we call civilised is simply domestication.

there have always seemed to be a small group of shepherds who have manipulated, fleeced and slaughtered the sheeple...they domesticated the herds of mankind.

Is agnostic different from athiest? How so?
by wanderlustguy ini know the answer, because i am agnostic.
it is strange to me that people assume if you say you are agnostic that it means you don't believe in god.
from wiki.... agnostics claim either that it is not possible to have absolute or certain knowledge of the existence or nonexistence of god or gods; or, alternatively, that while individual certainty may be possible, they personally have no knowledge.
-
the dreamer dreaming
agnostic = unable to tell if what others claim is true or just a [b]elief [s]ystem.
atheist = without any belief[s] in a being that others claim to exist.
both a believer and an atheist can be agnostic if they state their beliefs honestly. Such as I dont believe that this being, others are telling me exists, exists because I have found no valid reason for doing so... or I do believe such a being exists because I accept x y and z as evidences for such a being.--without claiming that they "KNOW" in either case.
only the CONviNcED beLIEveRS in either camp cross the line into delusion by making claims of absolute knowledge. -

Exciting announcements at service meeting
by truthseeker inwe've already had a post on this, but there were other interesting comments.. the brother giving the announcements said that there would be a new understanding of jesus' reference to the generation as discussed at the annual meeting.. an elder giving a service meeting part review of different watchtower articles from the current year brought out the new light concerning 1935.. he asks: "when is the sealing of the anounted ones?".
elder answers: "there is no specific date".
later after the meeting, i asked an elder if the new understanding of the remnant now meant that younger people could go to heaven.. he answered with an affirmative "yes" and that we would be getting the new understanding of the generation jesus spoke of in a future 2008 watchtower.. .

the question is were they telling the truth all along...they told us, that 1935 was special because a lot of hangers on did not FEEL like they had the heavenly calling and were wondering what their part would be...and because of this, they re-read the bible and discovered the great crowd doctrine...which of course is now obviously wrong as well...but was this the actual story or was there a back story that they just decided to cut off the annointed and make up a great crowd class? if they were honest, then it seems that honest people who could not be brainwashed into believing they were annointed were manipulated and suckered by Rutherford into accepting they could be slaves of the WT anyway.

Do YOU Hate Jehovah's Witnesses?
by minimus ini don't hate the people.
i feel bad for many of them.
i don't like the religion because it is a cult.

if you are burned by fire is it rational to hate fire because of your lack of skill or understanding? JWs are part of nature, forces of nature... not good nor evil until compared to something they are not. deception is a big part of nature, I am not supprized that humans are liars by nature for the most part (^_^)

help needed. God of OT vs God of NT
by why144000 ini need a bit of help trying to explain to my wife that the god of the ot was not the same "god is love" of the nt.
she is coming around to the fact that the gb are not the fds however i keep getting the line that god loves everyone and always has.
i will be researching the ot to show her examples of where the god of the ot demanded killing and forced slavery etc.

it seems to me that the god of old and new are basically the same... you read in the old, though is sins were as crimson I will make them white as snow if he repents...and though is acts were righteous, if he turns from me he will be laid low... [paraphrasing]. and the god of the new saying things like -- those who did not want me as king, bring them before me and slaughter them -luke 19:27, etc.

What really matters now?
by nvrgnbk ini'm just getting back from the toronto fest.. more beautiful people one could not wish to find.. thanks to all, and in particular bumble bee and memario, for hosting.. while i was away, i see that trev lost linda.. my heart is broken.. and i see some stuff about dannyh hurting some elderly brothers?.
this board is so important to us supporting one another.. i think it's about love.. may we never allow ourselves to be consumed with hate or dedicate our lives to destroying something.. it's not hard to do if we dwell on what we lost.
but we win in so many ways when we celebrate the life we have now and new beginnings instead of hanging on to the past.. that's the best "revenge".. we all need to vent.. it's a critical part of deprogramming.. but i'm thankful to the good friends on here that gave me a heads-up when they saw me heading towards bitterness.

when I left JWs my first fear, that life would have no meaning, ended... life still had meaning but I did not understand why or how for many years.
I discovered that all meaning comes from my awareness that my next move has consequences for my peace of mind.
my next move may bring me pain or pleasure or contentment.
I discovered that others are part of my sense of contentment as well, so one cannot be completely selfish and find actual contentment.
I realized that everyone and everything is part of my minds contents and the suffering of some parts is suffering of my total self.
so I realized that the best one can do is to live in the eye of the storm.... that calm center of the mind which exists
when what you are thinking and what you are doing match.... when the mind drifts to where the body cannot follow, like the future of
anticipations, the past of memories and the alternative universes of what if and if only that are right and left... storms of dis-ease
arise and contentment is lost.
so to be simple..what MATTERS NOW is always ONE thing, contentment.
